La Clusaz is a traditional alpine village and ski resort located in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of southeastern France.

It lies in the heart of the Aravis Mountain Range, close to Annecy (about 30 km away) and around 1 hour from Geneva.

History
The name “Clusaz” comes from the word “cluse”, meaning a narrow passage between mountains.

First documented in 1120, La Clusaz was originally a small farming and pastoral community.

The first ski competition was held in 1907, marking the beginning of winter tourism.

It became an official ski resort in the 1920s and has grown steadily since then while maintaining its Savoyard charm.

La Clusaz has produced several world-class winter sports athletes, especially in freestyle skiing and alpine skiing.

Description & Atmosphere
A charming mountain village with traditional wooden chalets, a Baroque church at its center, and cobblestone streets.

Unlike purpose-built resorts, La Clusaz retains an authentic Alpine atmosphere.

The resort is known for being family-friendly, lively, and also popular among locals from Annecy and Geneva.
