Description and History

Perched high on a sun-drenched Alpine plateau 1,180 meters above sea level in Tyrol, Austria, Ladis is a picturesque village where centuries-old history seamlessly meets modern Alpine luxury. This charming destination – which forms part of the renowned Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region – is famous for its beautifully preserved Rhaeto-Romanesque townscape with old farmhouses adorned with stunning frescoes, soaring staircases and historic baking ovens.

Burg Laudegg and the history of the area

Laudegg Castle (Burg Laudegg), a majestic fortress from the early Middle Ages, towers proudly above the village and its romantic pond. Ladis’ history is deeply connected to the area’s healing natural resources.

In 1212, a shepherd discovered a sulphurous and acidic mineral spring in nearby Obladis. The healing waters quickly became famous and were even preferred by the Habsburg Emperor Maximilian I. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, this spring transformed Ladis into a renowned health resort and made the town the cradle of tourism on the plateau.
