Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony, is a city that masterfully balances a rich royal heritage with a reputation as a global hub for innovation. Often called the "Garden City," it offers a relaxed yet culturally vibrant atmosphere.

History and Heritage

Hannover's history is famously linked to the British Crown; from 1714 to 1837, the Hanoverian monarchs also ruled Great Britain. While much of the city was destroyed during World War II, the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) stands as a magnificent surviving building with a unique curved elevator. The Old Town (Altstadt) was partially reconstructed using salvaged half-timbered houses, creating a picturesque, medieval pocket in an otherwise modern city.

Description and Staying

The city is organized and green, with a mix of elegant post-war architecture and historic landmarks. Whether you are visiting the city for business or leisure, the accommodation options are varied:

Typical foods (Taste of Lower Saxony)

Hannover's cuisine is hearty and traditional.

Calenberger Pfannenschlag: A tasty meat dish, often served with potatoes.

Grünkohl mit Bregenwurst: A winter tradition of kale stewed with a specific local smoked sausage.

Welfenspeise: A "Guelph Pudding" with two layers - a white milk cream topped with a yellow wine foam.

Lüttje Lage: A unique drinking tradition where beer and schnapps are poured into the mouth simultaneously from two different glasses.
