Posedarje is a scenic coastal town located on the shores of the Novigrad Sea in Northern Dalmatia, about 25 km northeast of Zadar. It serves as a peaceful gateway between the rugged Velebit Mountains and the Adriatic coast, offering a mix of traditional Mediterranean charm and easy access to Croatia's most famous national parks.

History
Ancient Roots: Posedarje has been inhabited since the 12th century and was first mentioned in official documents in 1219.

The Dukes of Posedarje: For centuries, the town was the seat of the noble Posedarski family. They were famous for defending the region against Ottoman incursions. A statue of the most famous duke, Martin of Posedarje, stands in the central square.

Sacred Sites: The town is home to the 12th-century Church of the Holy Spirit, situated on a tiny islet connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway—one of the most photographed spots in the area.

Typical Foods
Posedarje is a gastronomic hub for traditional Dalmatian flavors, specifically:

Posedarski Pršut: The town is legendary for its smoked ham (prosciutto). The local "Bura" wind and specific drying techniques give it a unique, world-class flavor.

Shellfish & Fish: The Novigrad Sea is less salty than the open Adriatic due to freshwater springs, making it an ideal habitat for mussels and oysters.

Black Risotto (Crni Rižot): A classic Dalmatian dish made with cuttlefish ink.

Peka: Meat (usually lamb or octopus) and vegetables slow-cooked under a bell-like iron lid covered in embers.

Activities
Beach Life: Posedarje offers a rare variety—one main pebble beach and a nearby shallow sandy beach (Sveti Duh), which is perfect for families and non-swimmers.

Adrenaline Sports: The nearby Maslenica Bridge is famous for bungee jumping.

Water Sports: The Zrmanja River is just a short drive away, offering world-class rafting and kayaking through deep limestone canyons.

Cycling: The area features various MTB and road cycling trails that offer views of the Velebit range and the sea.

Shops & Markets
Local Markets: You will find small markets in the center selling fresh local produce, olive oil, and honey.

Specialty Food: Several local "pršutoreznice" (prosciutto shops) allow you to buy the famous local ham directly from producers.

General Needs: For larger shopping trips, the Supernova Zadar mall and City Galleria in Zadar are only a 20-minute drive away.

Festivals
Donkey Races (Tovareca mužika): Usually held in mid-August, this traditional event is a local favorite, featuring donkey races, music, and a massive folk party.

Fishermen’s Nights: Held throughout July and August, these evenings involve open-air grilling of fish, local wine, and live Klapa (traditional a cappella) singing.

Fish and Wine Festival: A celebration of the Novigrad Sea’s bounty, typically held in late July.

Nature
The Novigrad Sea: A unique, enclosed sea bay that is warmer and calmer than the open ocean.

Paklenica National Park: Located just 15 km away, it is a mecca for hikers and rock climbers, featuring dramatic gorges and dense pine forests.

Velebit Nature Park: The largest mountain range in Croatia towers over the town, providing incredible hiking trails and biological diversity.

Celinka Hill: A local viewpoint featuring wooden sculptures by a local artist and a panoramic view of the entire bay.
