Located in the heart of the Alpujarra region of Granada, Válor is a traditional white-washed village steeped in history and surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of the Sierra Nevada.

Description
Válor is characterized by its typical Alpujarran architecture: flat-roofed houses, "tinaos" (covered passageways), and narrow, winding streets. It is historically significant as the birthplace of Abén Humeya, the leader of the Morisco revolt in the 16th century against the Crown of Castile. The village maintains a peaceful, rural atmosphere with stunning views of the surrounding valleys.

Typical Foods
The local cuisine is hearty and mountain-oriented:

Plato Alpujarreño: A signature dish consisting of fried eggs, potatoes, local ham, chorizo, morcilla (blood sausage), and peppers.

Jamón de Trevélez: Being close to the famous ham-producing town of Trevélez, you’ll find high-quality air-cured hams here.

Sweets: Many desserts reflect the village's Moorish heritage, featuring almonds and honey, such as pestiños and soplillos.

Local Wine: The Alpujarra produces distinctive wines that pair well with the local meats.

Activities
Hiking: The famous GR-7 long-distance footpath passes through Válor, offering beautiful routes through the mountains.

Historic Sites: Visit the Casa de Abén Humeya, the ancestral home of the Moorish king, and the Parroquial Church of San José, a Mudéjar-style church from the 16th century.

The Bridges: Walk across the Puente de la Tableta, a historic bridge of Moorish origin located just outside the village.

Shops
Válor is home to small artisan businesses where you can buy local products:

El Castillejo (Embutidos y Jamones): Excellent for locally cured meats and hams.

La Despensa de la Alpujarra: A great spot to pick up local honey, wines, and cheeses.

Autoservicio Covirán y Panaderia Ortega: A local bakery and grocery for fresh traditional breads.

Festivals
Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians): Held in mid-September (around Sept 14-15) in honor of the Santo Cristo de la Yedra. It is one of the most famous and elaborate representations of this festival in Andalusia, featuring battles and traditional costumes.

Baile de las Ánimas: A traditional dance and gathering held on December 25th.

Nature
Sierra Nevada National Park: Válor is situated within the protected area of the Sierra Nevada, providing access to diverse flora and fauna.
