Santa Fiora, located on the slopes of Monte Amiata in Tuscany, is recognized as one of Italy’s "Most Beautiful Villages" (I Borghi più belli d’Italia). Known as the "Town of Water," it is historically divided into three distinct quarters (terzieri): Castello, Borgo, and Montecatino.

Description & History
Santa Fiora was once the seat of the powerful Aldobrandeschi family and later the Sforza. The town is defined by its stone architecture and its intimate relationship with the Fiora River, which springs directly beneath the town. The historic center is characterized by narrow alleys, medieval fortifications, and elegant Renaissance palaces.

Typical Foods
The local cuisine is deeply rooted in the resources of Monte Amiata:

Chestnuts: The Marrone Santafiorese is a staple, used in soups, polenta, and desserts like Castagnaccio.

Acquacotta: A traditional peasant soup made with bread, onions, tomatoes, and poached eggs.

Mushrooms: Porcini from the local woods are featured in many dishes.

Selva Red Onion: A local variety often used in preserves and side dishes.
