Gortipohl is a charming and picturesque village located in the heart of the Montafon valley in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg. It is part of the larger municipality of St. Gallenkirch and is renowned as a dual-season destination, perfectly balancing traditional Alpine culture with modern outdoor adventure.

1. History & Description
Description: Gortipohl is nestled between the towering mountain ranges of the Rätikon, Verwall, and Silvretta. Its landscape is defined by traditional wooden chalets and a quiet, friendly atmosphere. At an elevation of approximately 950 meters, it serves as an ideal base for exploring the high Alps.

Historical Significance: The village is situated in a valley with a deep history in Alpine life. Skiing history, in particular, was made in this region, leading to the development of one of Austria's largest ski areas.

Cultural Heritage: The Kuratie-Kirche Gortipohl is a notable historical site. The original chapel dates back to around 1503. After being destroyed by an avalanche in 1694, the present church was built. It houses an organ from the 17th century, believed to be the oldest in the entire Montafon valley.

2. Typical Foods (Montafon Cuisine)
The Montafon valley is known for its distinct regional specialties, often featuring high-quality ingredients from local farms and mountain pastures.

Montafon Sura Kees: This is the most famous regional product—a spicy, sour fermented cheese that represents one of the oldest cheese traditions in the Alps. It is used in savory dishes and sometimes even in desserts.

Montafoner Keesknöpfli: The local variation of Käsknöpfle (an Austrian equivalent of macaroni and cheese), made hearty and flavorful with the local Sura Kees.

Brösel: A simple, traditional corn dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast or as a dessert, typically served with apple sauce.

Bolma-Nodla with Cinnamon: Another traditional, flavorful Montafon pastry.

General Austrian Favorites: Local restaurants also serve classic Austrian and Viennese dishes, such as Wiener Schnitzel, game specialties like venison, and the famous, fluffy dessert Kaiserschmarren (a shredded pancake).
