History
Keuruu’s history stretches back several centuries, with evidence of settlements in the region from the Iron Age. It was originally a small rural community and a chapel place in the 16th century, linked to the larger Mänttä parish. Keuruu officially became a parish and a municipality in 1855, which marked its development as an independent administrative unit. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Keuruu grew steadily due to forestry, agriculture, and small-scale industry. Its historical wooden churches and buildings still reflect its rich past.
