Origins & Evolution: Šilo was founded by settlers from Crikvenica and Selce. It evolved from a traditional fishing and shipbuilding community—also active in agriculture—into a tourist destination after regular ferry service to Crikvenica began in 1959

Transportation Milestone: In 1905, the Krk Skydiving Society launched a steamboat line connecting Šilo, Vrbnik, and Crikvenica

Geography & Nature
Situated in the protected Stipanja Bay, sheltered by Punta Šilo—with a lighthouse marking its tip—Šilo lies just across the narrow Vinodol

The village is the largest in the Dobrinj municipality and surrounded by beautiful pebble beaches, coves, and the rustic settlement of Polje above, preserving traditional rural architecture and lifestyle

Beaches & Outdoor Activities
Pecine Beach is a family favorite: a sandy–pebble stretch with Blue Flag status due to its top-quality water and surroundings

A dog-friendly beach is available on the Šilo peninsula for visitors with pets

Nearby attractions include Soline Bay with its healing mud and lesser-known coves such as Murvenica and Petrina for quiet exploration

Outdoor fun within Šilo includes tennis and beach volleyball courts, water sports like diving (notably at the wreck of the Greek cargo ship Peltastis sunk in 1968), sailing, rowing, and more

Local Culture & Festivals
The village’s main celebration is the St. Roch (Roko) festival on August 16, featuring a morning procession from Polje, traditional open-sea fishing, shared catch, local wine (Vrbnicka žlahtina), concerts, and fireworks

A swimming marathon Šilo–Crikvenica (3.5 km) takes place on August 15 and has been held annually since 1910

Throughout summer, the village also hosts weekly fishermen’s parties, klapa music concerts, exhibitions, children’s workshops, folk performances, and more

Shops, Dining & Village Life
Šilo provides essential facilities—restaurants, bakeries, cafés, a supermarket, post office, pharmacy, ATM, tourist agencies, and medicine services—despite having no hotels. Accommodations are in family-run apartments, guesthouses, or campsites

Dining options lean toward home-style and traditional fare, often paired with local Žlahtina white wine
