Valle di Non (Non Valley) is a beautiful valley located in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, northern Italy. Known for its dramatic landscapes, apple orchards, and rich cultural history, it is a lesser-known gem with deep traditions and stunning alpine beauty.

Description
Valle di Non stretches through the western part of the Trentino province. It is framed by the Dolomites to the east and Maddalene Mountains to the west, offering dramatic alpine views, deep canyons (like the Canyon Rio Sass), and extensive forests.

The valley is famous for its apple orchards, especially the Melinda apple, which has a Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) and is exported internationally.

Towns like Cles (the valley’s main town), Fondo, Malè, and Sanzeno preserve a mix of Ladin, Tyrolean, and Italian cultural influences.

History
Prehistoric and Roman Era: Evidence of human settlements dates back to prehistoric times. Under Roman rule, the valley became a key agricultural region.

Middle Ages: It was ruled by the Bishopric of Trento, and many castles were built (e.g., Castel Thun, an exceptionally well-preserved noble residence).

Modern Era: The valley remained mostly rural, and during WWI it was close to the front between Austria-Hungary and Italy. After WWI, it became part of Italy.

The valley still reflects a mix of Germanic and Latin traditions, especially in language and architecture.
