Vieste has a long and varied history that dates back thousands of years:

Ancient Origins: Archaeological evidence shows that Vieste was inhabited since the Bronze Age. It was later influenced by Greek and Roman civilizations.

Roman Era: Known as Apeneste during Roman times, the area was part of important trade and military routes.

Medieval Period: During the Middle Ages, Vieste became a stronghold and was often targeted by pirates and Saracens. One tragic event was the Saracen attack in 1554, when thousands of inhabitants were massacred.
