Ibiza—or Eivissa as it’s known in Catalan—is much more than its "party island" reputation suggests. It’s a place where high-octane nightlife meets ancient Phoenician history and rustic Mediterranean charm.

History: Beyond the Clubs
Ibiza’s history is a layer cake of different Mediterranean civilizations:

The Phoenicians: Founded the city of Iboshim in 654 BC, making it one of the oldest settlements in Europe.

The Pirates: Because of its strategic location, the island was a constant target. This is why you’ll see massive stone watchtowers (Torres) dotting the coastline.

Dalt Vila: The "High City" is a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring Renaissance-era walls that have stood the test of time and siege.

The Hippie Era: In the 1960s and 70s, Ibiza became a haven for artists and "flower children," a vibe that still influences the island’s culture today.

Typical Foods: A Taste of the Sea
Ibizan cuisine is hearty, rural, and focused on fresh local ingredients.

Bullit de Peix: A traditional fish stew made with the catch of the day, followed by rice cooked in the remaining broth.

Flaó: A unique cheesecake flavored with honey, sheep’s or goat’s cheese, and—surprisingly—fresh mint.

Ensaimada: A flaky, coiled pastry (shared with Mallorca) often dusted with powdered sugar.

Hierbas Ibicencas: An anise-flavored herbal liqueur macerated with local plants like rosemary, thyme, and lavender.

Nature and Landscapes
The island is famous for its "white" architecture and turquoise waters.

The Salt Flats (Ses Salines): These shimmering salt pans have been harvested for over 2,000 years and are home to migrating flamingos.

Es Vedrà: A massive limestone rock rising from the sea. Legend says it’s the third most magnetic spot on Earth (though that’s more myth than science, it’s still breathtaking).

Secret Coves: While San Antonio has the crowds, places like Cala Llentrisca or Es Portitxol offer crystal-clear solitude.

Activities & Festivals
Whether you want to dance until sunrise or hike in silence, Ibiza has it.

The Nightlife: Home to world-famous clubs like Pacha, Amnesia, and Hï Ibiza.

Water Sports: Excellent for scuba diving (thanks to the protected Posidonia seagrass) and paddleboarding.

Medieval Festival (May): A massive celebration in Dalt Vila with stalls, performers, and decorations that take the city back to the Middle Ages.

Drumming at Benirràs: Every Sunday at sunset, drummers gather on the beach for a bohemian ritual that’s been happening for decades.

Shopping: Adlib Fashion
Shopping in Ibiza is all about the "Adlib" style—white, breathable fabrics with lace and embroidery.

Hippy Markets: Las Dalias and Punta Arabí are the most famous. You’ll find handmade jewelry, leather goods, and tie-dye clothing.

Marina Botafoch: For high-end luxury brands and designer boutiques.
