Santa Maria di Leuca is a charming coastal town located at the southernmost tip of the Salento peninsula in Puglia, Italy, where the Ionian and Adriatic seas meet. It's known for its stunning sea views, historical significance, and blend of natural beauty and religious heritage.

History
Ancient Times: Known to the Greeks and Romans, the town was called Finibus Terrae ("end of the land") due to its position at the edge of the Italian peninsula.

Religious Significance: The Sanctuary of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae, built on the site of an ancient Roman temple dedicated to Minerva, marks the Christianization of the area. According to legend, Saint Peter stopped here on his journey to Rome.

19th Century: Santa Maria di Leuca became a fashionable holiday destination for wealthy Apulian families, resulting in the construction of liberty-style villas that still line the promenade.

Description
Coastal Beauty: The town sits between steep cliffs and sandy beaches, with turquoise waters and dramatic sea caves (grotte).

The Lighthouse: One of the most important in Italy, it stands next to the Sanctuary and offers breathtaking views of both seas.

Historic Villas: Over 40 elegant villas built in various eclectic styles (Moorish, Gothic, Neoclassical) make for a picturesque landscape.
